Review- Stake Land

Stake Land - Those looking for a Horror fix should definitely check out this surprisingly good little straight-to-video "B Movie". It's a bloody, deadly-serious, vampire-laden "Road" picture that's legitimately harrowing. It's also one of the few Horror films I've seen over the last few years that doesn't "Shit the bed" with a terrible ending.

In the not-too-distant future, a plague of bloodsuckers and maniacally religious zealots has besieged the world- a hardened vampire hunter and his teenaged protege find themselves trying to make it to safer territory, picking up a few other survivors along the way. Tonally, think 28 Days Later mixed with The Book Of Eli.

Nick Damici, whom I was previously unfamiliar with, is excellent as the gruff badass known as "Mister"- the dude chews scenery and has presence to spare. Connor Paolo (a newcomer who's pretty much the star) is the young trainee, while Kelly McGillis (Top Gun - my God, the years have not been kind), Danielle Harris (Rob Zombie's Halloween and The Last Boyscout- who's as cute as ever) and Sean Nelson (Fresh) make up the small band of travelers.

*Word of Warning*- Those with small children and infants might want to skip this- there are a couple of overtly grim scenes involving children. Other than that, Recommended.
